I decided to be a programmer while in school at Indiana University. All of these years later I'm still at it and as excited as I was then. The advances in web technology have made it possible for us to achieve a lot from a web application. My biggest interest currently is hardware control. I'm excited about the possibility of turning on devices in my house from my phone's web browser on my way home from work.
Shortly after the first round of the web in 2000 I moved to Portland Oregon to start Runskip. Portland is a great town to surround yourself in - great food, fantastic coffee, good transportation, inspiring music and a lot of other creative people and activities to fuel the fire.
Bloomington Indiana is my second favorite city. Bloomington is the home of Indiana University where I studied mathematics and computer science. I think math is a perfect complement for a programmer and when I meet young programmers I tell them to take as many math classes as they can because the rigorous thought processes required for math will be directly applicable in solving the problems they will encounter as a programmer. Programming isn't as much about writing code as it is solving problems and developing systems to solve those problems - just like math!
